The Punk O Rama Vol. 10 Review

Punk O Rama vol. 10 is the latest edition in Epitaph’s annual compilation series. In terms of the music, Epitaph is really expanding its sound. 9 years ago, you would hear the So-Cal punk sound from The Offspring, the linguistic serenity of Bad Religion and the comical lyrical styling of NOFX. Now, you get this and a whole lot more! The comp features artists such as: Motion City Soundtrack, Matchbook Romance, Bad Religion, Millencolin, Dropkick Murphy’s, Tiger Army and many more. The first song “When You’re Around” by Motion City Soundtrack is an exploration in that well produced keyboard/moog driven sound which they play very well. Other notable songs are Bad Religion’s “News from the Front” Millencolin’s “Farewell My Hell” (Full Review of Kingwood Here), The Offspring’s “Mission From God” which is a nice little staple created in the Ignition day’s. Rancid’s “White Knuckle Ride” is a perfect reason why Matt Freeman can be called one the best bassist in punk. The most difficult thing about reviewing compilations is that I can get into it for a very long time (And I know all of you don’t want to read all of that). A welcome change is Epitaph’s rap artists and the music they contribute (even though the album is called “PUNK” O Rama). Songs “Sun and Moon” by Sage Francis and “Laugh/Love/Fuck” by The Coup. A bunch of REALLY nice things about the POR series is that they always come out Dirt Cheap and for the most part stay that way. Another is that like other comps, you get a dose of something new all the time. The DVD which comes with the CD is awesome. It contains great music videos for “My Eyes Burn” by Matchbook Romance, “Los Angeles is Burning” by Bad Religion, “Ray” by Millencolin, an hilarious seeming school house rock inspired animated video for “Ride the Fence” by the Coup and “Tessie” by Dropkick Murphy’s. Punk O Rama 10 has a lot to offer and is totally worth the 7.99. So Buy it soon if not NOW!
